Work continues on the Bolinas Lagoon restoration study. The Marin County Open Space District’s (MCOSD) consulting team will publish their findings, and present them to the public in a series of meetings in Bolinas and Stinson Beach, beginning in July. Recall that the findings will be a projection of what the lagoon will be like in 50 years, if no intervention occurs.
During and after the meetings we, the public, will have an opportunity to weigh in with our comments. If the public concludes that the lagoon’s condition will be satisfactory, no further action will be necessary. If, on the other hand, the public concludes that the lagoon’s projected condition will not be satisfactory, the project will continue.
If the project continues, MCOSD will join forces with the Corps of Engineers to produce a Supplemental Draft Feasibility Study Report/EIR/EIS for submission to Congress. That document will be circulated for public review and comment before it leaves San Francisco. No schedule has been established for work beyond the current effort.
Thanks to the support of Senator Barbara Boxer and Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, the Army Corps of Engineers received $150,000 for this project in the current federal budget. The local Corps of Engineer’s office is working closely with MCOSD, and will use these appropriated funds for tasks that support and complement the work of MCOSD’s consulting team.
Project bulletins, correspondence and status updates continue to be available at the MCOSD’s web site: www.marinopenspace.org.
