Phase III Funding Success!!!

August 1, 2001

News Update

Your letter writing campaign this past spring was a great success; both the House and the Senate Appropriations Committees supported a $750,000 allocation for Bolinas Lagoon Restoration for fiscal year ’02 (the amount needed to complete Phase III)! The new State budget includes $1,155,000 for the project, thanks to the efforts of Senator John Burton and Assemblyman Joe Nation!

Marin County and the Corps of Engineers are now in the process of selecting the "preferred alternatives," the dredging options that will be recommended in the report to Congress next year. The Draft Feasibility Study Report (EIR/EIS) is planned for release in October. This document will trigger a series of public review and comment meetings, leading to eventual approval by Marin County’s Board of Supervisors and the Commanding General of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers next summer or fall. At that point the project will be recommended to Congress for Construction (dredging) Authorization. (Please remember that all dates are current estimates.)
